There’s a spot over here, there’s a spot over there

I was recently given a number of small canvases to use for a preschool group. A blank canvas is sometimes a little daunting , this activity provided some guidance and allowed them to explore the use of colour and a technique used by Indigenous Australians in their artwork.

This was a great opportunity to create a great wall piece whilst encouraging their excitement of letters!

Materials

  • a small canvas or paper
  • contact
  • cotton buds
  • acrylic paint

Technique

Cut a template of the letter you wish to use. We used the first letter of the child’s name. Trace the template on to the contact then stick the contact on the canvas. Use the cotton buds dipped in various colours to dot all over the canvas.

The more dots the better!

When the dots have dried simply take off the contact letter and enjoy your art!
